blog update

03Oct09

Quick, type something up, so we don’t have to look at that blue person anymore! That was a small voice at the back of my head, but obviously I don’t listen to those… so it is later than we think, another week zoomed by, and we are one more month farther into this year, and I am a day away from yet another birthday. And I am going to move to another topic and pretend it is not happening. Issues? Me?

I have been spending my time at another blog, testing waters of everyday posting with NaBloPoMo. At the end of the month, it was my commitment that counted. And somewhere in the middle of that posting I realized that this space (with pages that can be made so easily and look so pretty, and are so organized) can be dedicated place for creative endeavors and expressions, and outofhands at blogspot (that I have obviously gave up in haste, and repented about it at leisure) will be about my everyday – life, rants, things…

So, the Illustration page is up already. And it got me thinking that I have missed Illustration Friday. I am going to start participating again. I also feel that I would like to try a little more focused approach.

That is all for now. Come and see me at both places: right HERE and HERE. I am posting something everyday, at one place or another.

Where did I go?

House projects are taking most of my time these days. I swapped my canvas and acrylic paint for wall paint and rollers. Living room, my bedroom, and studio are all under some degree of construction or repair. That means that everything is in chaos. Including my head.

And speaking of head trips — I have been posting every day on my old blog. I know, I know: Figaro here, Figaro there… After trying out WordPress, and loving so many of its features, I was still reluctant to give up on my old space (O U T O F H A N D S ). So, I am  trying to figure out the how and why of my virtual homes. And until I do, I am content with bouncing back and forth.

It is a wonderful feeling to see your paintings in one place, ready for viewing! I hope that people will enjoy them, and appreciate their whimsy. They are in great company, too — artstream  is filled to the brim with some lovely artworks! head over HERE or HERE to see more.

On a more prosaic note: one more wall is down in my studio, and that’s it for the demolition part. I am now (or very soon) ready to start patching, painting, rebuilding, priming, painting … and try to put it back together! I promised myself that I will not linger or procrastinate on this  project, but we are looking at the warm sunny weather for a few more days!!! I just may put this indoor grunge on hold and break out into the great outdoors. If you find me gone, I have shirked my obligations and  ran away to commune with nature!

two for one: so different I could not resist

I was caught in a whirlwind of projects for the last couple of weeks! And it is not over yet. I was hoping for a longer break after finishing my new series of paintings, but there is too much to do. So, I had a few days off chilling out in the country, and then returned home to jump into my necessary mess of fixing our living space.

Most changes I am working on are small; they are not in any way changing the look or layout of the house. It will not make too much difference in the end in overall appearance, because it took me years to figure out what I was happy and comfortable with in terms of decorating, and I am not going to make any sudden changes now. So, this is more of “variations on a theme” type of project. And since most of the changes are small and cosmetic, it should be easy, right? Ah…no.

Snowball effect in action, as one thing leads to another: I can’t have new flooring put in a closet without removing the entire contents of it out. I can’t have ceiling painted after the new carpeting is installed – OK, I can, but do I really want to all those tiny spatters (yes, even spatter-free paint makes tiny spatters… it just does) on everything? And to top it all: my computer set-up will have to be dismantled completely, because there is no way of having that space repaired, rewired, and painted without total destruction. I am not even going to dwell on how the walls of my studio going down as I write – and that will require some sorting before putting it back together again.

I love how home improvement TV shows do all those fabulous remodels in couple of days. It never worked that way for me. It takes longer, and it is messier, and the hardest part is to co-ordinate all the efforts as it is all going on at the same time. But there is a promise of an end in there somewhere, and hope that once it is done I will be able to take a break!

Maybe.
